I'm making zombies. They're blue. They have funny hair. I need to do a bunch of work on them.

Here's some pics:

I was originally thinking of modelling clay clothes for them, but I've decided to go to spotlight and see how much scrap material I can find and make some clothes for them. Paint some blood on and stuff.
Also, the hair is made from coloured woodshavings. I had bought it previously for other uses, but it looks pretty rad as hair. And the eyes are made from clay also, but air-dried clay. So they is solid.

Whatcha reckon?

Screw it, I've been putting it off way too long.
This weekend I'm going to create a very short video. Not sure what about. Most of my stuff has been done without planning so far, so I'll give that another bash. Planning always seems to lead to complexity and then to boredom. At least if I fly by the seat of my pants I have no chance to get bored with it.

Wish me luck.

Maybe the dog has done me a favour.

I just had an idea on how the first instalment will work. Instead of it being hosted by Clay, I shall have a supporting character act as guest host. Oh how kooky. I can even use the dog chewing incident(s) as part of a story. Yes. I like it.

Today I also made a plant.

Also, I got told today that I might be on dialysis within 20 years. Awesome. I assume that in 20 years I shall be more machine than human anyhow. Therefore, when that day comes, I shall expect everyone to start calling me Skynet. Or Demolition Man.

Expect a scene depicting that in it. You can bet your hat on it. As long it's that hat that I like, not that other sweaty mangy thing you often wear in the summer.

Going shopping for a pair of glasses tomorrow. I hope to science that they still make big arsed chunky black rimmed glasses. This whole thin rimmed thing is totally lame.

For some reason I had this song stuck in my head today:

Two posts in a day. What has my world come to?

The Damned Dog

I had finished my model character.
The dog decided clay was delicious.
I managed to salvage most of it and repaired it
The next day, I do some washing. The dog climbs up on my chair and grabs my newly repaired clay model off my desk. He ate more this time. There is no more clay of this colour to repair it.

Just as I was about ready to start shooting as well. Now I just want to shoot the dog, but apparently that's frowned upon.

New project under way

So it has been many a month since I last posted. I guess I have been wallowing in self pity and self doubt during that time. The inability to find a job and being so far removed from the life I knew the past year has certainly played havoc with my belief that "everything will be okay". Now I'm safe in the knowledge that it certainly won't be unless I do something about it.

So I've started a new project.

On the interwebs (youtube specifically) there are a lot of these so-called blogs that involve just random people talking about stuff. That's all they are: People talking about stuff. There's some jokes, some insight, but mostly they're just people trying to get noticed in this technological age where it's easy to feel distant from everything around you. I've often thought "yeah I could do that" but have often wondered how I could be different and not just another dude talking about stuff.

Then it hit me.

I started doing stop-motion animation for a reason, right? Well...instead of getting a web-cam and blabbing, perhaps I should put some effort into this. And instead of my face on screen, I should create a face to put on screen.

Thus, the idea for "Clay" was born.

My character, a blue dude called "Clay", shall be my face and my voice. I have so far created a chair and a table, plus the start for Clay. He looks kinda like Gumby, but he's blue his head doesn't have a strange slant to it. Basically he is a clay-dude. He just needs eyes and a mouth. Maybe a nose. Maybe clay hair.

This is going to take a lot of work. It may be a month or two before I finish my first piece. I have to try and keep the blogs reasonably short, less than a minute each would be preferable, as each minute of film is going to take between 600 and 900 photos, as I would like it to be somewhere between 10 and 15 frames per second (fps). That is not something I can whip out in an afternoon. Most of the animations I have done in the past have been about 9 or 10 fps, which looks okay, but 15 would really be the target. Smoothness is king.

I would like to have shown you a few photos of the set up I have in place at the moment, however I lost my small digital camera which I used in the past for such things. I lost it after a particularly boozy wedding I went to a couple of weeks back. I think I left it in the back of a taxi. Bye bye camera. Thankfully I still have my SLR, but I already have it set on a tripod infront of my new "set", which is looking very bland at the moment. Maybe I'll try my hand at making a clay pot-plant or something.

If you've never wished me anything in the past, wish me luck on this venture. I believe I'll need a whole bunch of it.

I shall leave you with a trailer for the greatest movie that will never be made.

So... how bout that local sporting team?

Yeah they are shit, ain't they?

Anyways, I was going to come on here and mention that I've settled into scarborough life with family and dog nicely, still job hunting and various other things...but there has been one drastic change in my life. Something so outrageous that I never thought it would happen to me. Something so amazing that it has changed how I perceive the world and technology in general.

I iPad.

I'm writing this entry on it right now. When they first came out, I have to admit I was a definite naysayer. But having been on the lookout for a new laptop for quite some time now, I did some reading. This thing does pretty much everything I was looking for, such as email, internets, games, streaming videos, and reading stuffs. Much cheaper than getting a laptop as well.

Expect pictures of me and my iPad to be up shortly. Nothing too pornographic, I promise.

Breakdown over! Changes ahead!

Ok, so I maaaaaay have had an eensy weensy emotional breakdown a few weeks back, which may have lasted a couple of weeks. So I've made a few changes in my life to attempt to set back the onset of complete and utter insanity.

I guess the biggest change is I quit my job. No more late nights/early mornings and no more dealing with drunken idiot customers who don't understand the meaning of the word "manners". The past weekend has been spent doing things that I haven't done in months, such as seeing friends, going out drinking with friends, going to a movie with friends, and more drinking with friends. It really has been a nice change. I've even been awake before midday a couple of times.

Working nights really started doing my head in, especially in combination with being sick for those past weeks. Remember, kids, there's no sick pay for restaurant workers. You either work and get paid, or you don't and you don't. There is no in-between. Working nights whilst not feeling well makes me a grumpy bum.

I had a stack of customer service complaints about me about a mile long. The thing is though, whilst one or two of them I'll admit were me being a grumpy jerk, the majority of them were from customers who (a) were cunts, (b) were not doing the right thing, and (c) decided arguing with me about them not doing the right thing was well within their rights because I'm just a lowly waiter whilst they are a high and mighty customer. Argue with me and I'm going to argue back, especially when I know I've done nothing wrong. However, the customer is always right and management will always take their side, no matter the case. It's fucked, but that's just the way it is.

That being said, I'm really going to miss the place. I think the reason I stayed on as long as I did is because I love the place, I loved working there and I loved the people I worked with. There have been many occasions where I've fallen out of touch with good people I've worked with in the past, but in this case I will be making a concerted effort to see these people as much as I possibly can. I can tell you I will be making the most of my now 20% discount there.

My next big change is that I'm moving out of the house I've been living in the past year. I'll probably be moving in with my parents or my sister for the next couple of weeks whilst I look for a place to call my own. And literally my own. I think it's time I tried the whole living on one's own thing. It's a new chapter in my life, right? Gotta try something new.

This also means that I have more time and energy to dedicate to my animation project. I have a bunch of ideas I want to try out and this is the perfect time to do it...well...maybe not the next couple of weeks because I'll be spending most of that time packing up my things from this house, moving them around and such...I guess we'll see.

In the mean time, here's the most recent Dayjob Orchestra video:
